Vaux's Swifts

Every September hundreds of birds gather every night for a few weeks just before dawn where they fly around the chimney of a local school. It is a pretty spectacular thing to witness. Lot's of people gather and slowly but surely, all of these birds show up. The most exciting part of the night is to wait for the hawk(s) to show up. Sure enough we got lucky and the hawk showed up to try to get his dinner.

 Starting to show up

 I love my boys

This picture shows the birds at full force. They just fly in a circle for about a half hour before they all file into the chimney to sleep.

 Enter the hawk

I thought the hawk was giving up tonight but just before the show was over, he swooped in. The crowd let out a huge gasp, which scared Bobby.

He did not want to watch the "big bird". He also called him the "bad guy". In the end, the hawk came up empty handed.
